Re-Imagining Education: Gandhi's Educational policy and NEP 2020 Panel Discussion and Art Exhibition

Introduction
On 28th November 2025, semester 3 and semester 1 students from the Department of B.Ed. conducted a panel discussion followed by an art exhibition on Mahatma Gandhi's educational policy and NEP 2020. The event highlighted the cross sections of Gandhi's philosophy of education and the cardinal principles of the new education policy. The discussion of the panel prompted the audience to ponder on the impact of Gandhi's principles on modern day education and how the policies under NEP 2020 attempt at making education a holistic experience for all students. The exhibition added the right tinge of creativity in displaying the synergies between Gandhi's educational wisdom and NEP 2020.

Performance overview
The theme of the event was introduced by Dr. Debika Guha, Associate professor, Department of B.Ed. and this brief but enriching introduction was followed by the panel discussion moderated by Dr. Bandyopadhyay, Assistant professor, department of History, Loreto College. Each panelist articulated their views on the event's theme and added their own experiences to exemplify their subjects of discussion. Significance of one's mother tongue, the need for practical and experiential learning, necessity of basic education in an individual's life, the guiding principles of 'Buniyadi Siksha' and consequences of The New Education Policy 2020 were some of the subjects that were very carefully dissected by the panelists. The enthusiasm and curiosity of the audience reflected in the questions that they raised during their interaction with the panelists.

The succeeding sequence of the event was an Art Exhibition that blended colors with solid facts. Semester I students of the Department of B.Ed. amplified subjects like the pillars of holistic education, the principles of 'Nai Talim', the analogy of the past and the present of the Indian education system and the various government schemes that aims at universalizing elementary education. This unique presentation tested the parallels between Gandhi's vision and NEP 2020's Mission.

Dr. Ghosh, Head of Department of B.Ed., Loreto College interacted with the team members during the Art Exhibition and added indispensable value to the event. Her words of wisdom and critical insight on the subject gave the students unique perspectives to ponder over.

Key perspectives
The event emphasized on three major objectives-

  • Mahatma Gandhi's insight on education and its impact on The New Education Policy 2020.

  • The similarities between Gandhi's principles and NEP 2020's objectives.

  • The scopes of improvement in India's Education System and the ways in which the gap between traditional and modern Education can be bridged.

  • Conclusion
The event successfully created a meaningful platform for students to engage with the philosophical foundations of education in India while critically evaluating its relevance. By juxtaposing Gandhi's timeless ideals with the vision of NEP 2020, the panel discussion and art exhibition allowed participants to recognize the relevance of experiential learning, value-based education, and holistic development.
